Emergencies come up every day, and the South Florida Education Center (SFEC) understands this, which is why they help promote the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program. ERH, sponsored by South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS) and the Florida Department of Transportation, provides vouchers for free taxi service to registered commuters,

ERH provides six free taxi cab vouchers a year to use in the event of an unexpected emergency or unscheduled overtime. The vouchers may be used 24-hours a day, seven days a week and is available to registered users who use an alternate mode of transportation to commute to and from campus at least two days a week. Eligible situations include:

  1. Illness of the commuter or a member of his/her family
  2. Unscheduled or extended school hours
  3. A carpool driver’s inability to make a scheduled trip home due to illness or an unexpected school schedule.

However, there are plenty of situations that do not qualify, such as personal errands, weather-related events, pre-planned appointments/meetings, or car malfunctions. Any misuse of the taxi service may result in immediate termination from the ERH program for up to one year.

At the time of your emergency, call (800) 234-RIDE, and you will be picked up at the registered address on your SCFS profile. You must have a valid ERH voucher with you at the time of pick-up.

To register for the ERH program, call (800) 234-RIDE or sign up online.
